Motif # 7 (and new comment at bottom of post)

Here is a new Snowflake, this one is Important to me,
it has a little meaning, and it is my own design.
it is titled, "Shaded Sun"
I took a little while and thought about the design,
and I am really happy with the negative space as well
as the  positive.  This is the first  fully
tatted version, so a few more are necessary.
the colors are spring green and spring garden, both Lizbeth size 20.
Also both purposefully picked for this  first rendition of Shaded Sun.

I am not sure if I will be giving this pattern out for free or not,
however, I would love to hear some feedback on my designing
ability  and your thoughts about it's aesthetics.

Thank you, and happy tatting, Bri.

  1. Ooooh, this caught my eye right away - so as far as aesthetics go, you are right on! Thought I think it's beautiful to look at, I wonder if there is too much negative space to not be "floppy"? Lovely, lovely design.

  2. Cindy,
I think you are right, I water and finger pressed it, and it is a bit "floppy", it would have to be quite stiff to be a snowflake, it is about 6 and a half inches across, so maybe snowflake isn't right, but rather a doily instead/ in which case it would lay flat on a table...

  3. Love, this design! It has such elegant, graceful lines and (I think) good balance between positive and negative space.

Cindy's question about floppiness could be a case of "spaghetti chain syndrome." Connecting the rings in round two that are NOT clovers may shore it up without shortening the chains. (Add two joining picots to your three-picot ring and see how it goes.)

  4. I wouldn't care if it was floppy. I wouldn't use it as a doily anyway. I'd frame it somehow - but I'm not a doily person. I'd rather display them upright, even in a see-thru frame, rather than laying down.

And there are also those super stiffening agents!

  5. You should be pleased with this design!

I'd love to see several of these motifs joined together to make a larger mat. However, I admit that it takes a good deal of concentration for me to make the correct joins!

  6. This is beautiful as it is, in my opinion. If you diagram and write it out, you could sell the .pdf. Do you accept PayPal?

  12. This is lovely! I agree with Gina, who cares if it's 'floppy'? I'd frame it! It would look wonderful that way.
